Prosperous 2006 Allows Girlfriends Films to Sponsor Charitable Causes
Thanks to
our customers' strong support, Girlfriends Films enjoyed unprecedented
growth in 2006 and experienced its first profitable year. As a
consequence, we were able to make substantial donations to various
charitable organizations. In selecting the recipients, they had to have
at least an A- rating for fiscal disclosure and efficiency from the
American Institute of Philanthropy. In addition, special consideration
was given to causes that are mostly likely to directly benefit our
customers and their families. Recipients who each received $1,000 or
more from Girlfriends Films during 2006 include the following...
Almost
everyone in the GF community has a person in his or her family who has
been affected by cancer. There are a number of foundations for the
study and cure of specialized cancers but – in order to benefit as many
of our customers as possible – we wanted to fund an organization that
concerns itself with the entire spectrum of the disease. CRI has been a
sustaining force in immunology research and all kinds of cancer. The
Institute has supported more than 2,780 scientists and clinicians at
leading universities and research centers worldwide.
Doctors Without Borders is an independent international medical
humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected
by armed conflict, epidemics, natural or man-made disasters, or
exclusion from health care in more than 70 countries. Each year, DWB
professionals depart on more than 3,800 field assignments and work
alongside more than 22,500 locally hired staff to provide medical care.
In emergencies and their aftermath, DWB provides health care,
rehabilitates and runs hospitals and clinics, performs surgery, battles
epidemics, carries out vaccination campaigns, operates feeding centers
for malnourished children, and offers mental health care.
While Girlfriends Films does not support any war and believes in the
power of diplomacy and good deeds, we do appreciate our American
soldiers and have the greatest sympathy for those who have been killed
or gravely injured. The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund is constructing a
world-class, state-of-the-art 60,000 square foot training-skills
facility at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, which will
serve military personnel who have been catastrophically disabled in
operations mostly in Iraq and Afghanistan. With construction costs
already fully funded, the GF donation will help provide additional
services including facilities for patients' families, medical equipment
and supplies, and medical research to improve the care of patients.
Living in the "big city", we see first-hand the sad consequences of
kids growing up without the good care and direction that is critical to
their development. Boys & Girls Clubs of America has a lineup of
tested and proven nationally recognized programs that address today's
most pressing youth issues, teaching young people the skills they need
to succeed in life. More than 25 national programs are available in the
areas of education, the environment, health, the arts, careers,
alcohol/drug and pregnancy prevention, gang prevention, leadership
development and athletics.
There are Girlfriends Films customers in every state and The
Conservation Fund works in all 50 of them to preserve each region's
unique natural resources, cultural heritage and historic places. The
Fund and its partners have protected more than 5 million acres of
America's outdoor heritage including wildlife habitat, working
landscapes, rivers and wetlands and community open space.
Though not listed with the American Institute of Philanthropy, we
know first-hand of the FSC's good work in protecting the rights of
consumers of adult products. There are many politicians who would like
to force you to live by their personal moral codes and religious beliefs
– much like Taliban members wrapped in American flags. While we find
some adult content offensive and not to our own personal tastes, there
isn't much that is more disgusting in this business than one group of
adults telling another group of consenting adults how they must lead
their lives, especially behind closed doors.
Small School
While they probably don't want their name being
associated with an adult-video company and we won't mention the place by
name, we donated to a small school for autistic students located on the
east coast.
