As not only a woman, but a woman in her thirties breast cancer is a serious concern for me. I know that there is a possibility that one day I may be afflicted by it, as it has savagely affected people I have been friends with, people I’ve met in my life. I support NBCCF mission to end breast cancer. Coming from the UK we are lucky enough to have access to free health care and screening for breast and cervical cancer. NBCCF works towards funding cancer research, care for uninsured women and support for people diagnosed with the disease. Girlfriends Films Donates Thousands to Charities in 2011.

December 27th, 2011 -----Girlfriends Films Is finishing off 2011 by giving back. In every year since 2006 the magnanimous company donates thousands of dollars as part of its annual charitable gifting program.
This year, Girlfriends Films sent $1,000 donations in performers' names to 12 organizations ($12,000 total), plus made additional corporate donations totaling thousands more. The seven charities that the corporation donated to this year include: Doctors without Borders, Cancer Research, St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, The Conservation Fund, Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, and Compassion & Choices.

November 2nd, 2011 ---  Girlfriends Films is donating $1,000 to Best Friends Animal Society on behalf of popular lesbian erotica performer Jelena Jensen. "Anyone who knows me, knows what a huge animal lover I am," Jelena stated. "I'm also a huge proponent of spaying and neutering pets, as well as adopting pets rather than buying bred animals. I own two giant-breed rescue dogs, one of which is a special needs dog. His previous owners were told to put him down because 'no one would take a 150-pound dog with known health problems.' Thankfully, they sought out a rescue that would take him without putting him down. A week later, I fell in love with him and took him home, huge medical costs and all. He almost missed out on a very loving and fulfilling life, but was thankfully given a chance."

"I love Best Friends Animal Society's No More Homeless Pets campaign where they spray and neuter animals, as well as set up foster and adoption programs around the country," she continued. "Their sanctuaries take in dogs, cats and other animals in need of special care, so one day they will be able to be adopted. They're giving animals the chance to lead happy, healthy, and loving lives."

Best Friends Animal Society is guided by a simple philosophy: kindness to animals builds a better world for all. In the late 1980s, when Best Friends was in its early days, roughly 17 million dogs and cats were being killed in shelters every year. Despite the commitment of shelter workers to the animal in their care, the conventional belief was that little could be done to lower that terrible number. Best Friends' No More Homeless Pets campaign created a new vision: A grassroots effort to place dogs and cats who were considered "unadoptable" into good homes, and to reduce the number of unwanted pets through effective spay and neuter programs. Since then, the number of dogs and cats being destroyed in shelters has fallen to approximately 5 million a year. There has been  much progress, but there is still much more to do.
